The brief

After loving their Optima kitchen in their family home in Falkirk, the Balwin’s returned to us with another project, this time within their self-built luxury holiday rental property ‘Heilan Roo’ in Killiecrankie. With the property situated in the forest, Mr & Mrs Balwin wanted the colours and textures to reflect nature.

The solution

Featuring a combination of Black Gold Metal Slate cabinetry with our Antique Bronze Synergy handleless rail system and a selection of premium Neff and Hotpoint appliances, the design combines exceptional, modern luxury with the earthy tones of the surrounding woodland.

As a holiday home, the design had to combine both form and function to create a sociable space that performs as well as it looks.  The clever positioning of prep, cooking and washing-up zones on the island creates a highly sociable set-up and ensures that the chef never misses out on the party in the lounge area.  The multifunctional coffee and bar area is cleverly positioned so that it is easily accessible and does not intrude on preparation or cooking areas.  The island is completed with striking 20mm Dekton Trilium worktops with a single downturn that complements the timber wall panelling and creates an earthy, organic feel.

The natural colours and textures utilised throughout the design reflect back the breathtaking visuals of the surrounding forest that can be seen through the large floor-to-ceiling windows around the room. This, paired with the abundance of natural light and overall contemporary feel to the design, creates a sense of luxurious serenity in the heart of nature.
